This is about Near Death Experiences.

And this is a guy rambling on about his own sort-of NDE; it is possibly the most belabored, drawn-out, maddeningly slow story-telling I've ever heard. Whatever you believe about God, I'm pretty sure you'll agree that this man's 10-minute telling of a 30-second story should be punishable by death...

And this is the best hockey fight I've ever seen. Okay, then.

and there's this

A quick quiz for your dining pleasure. I'll post the answers in the comments.

1. Name the one sport in which neither the spectators nor the participants know the score or the leader until the contest ends.

2. What famous North American landmark is constantly moving backward?

3. Of all vegetables, only two can live to produce on their own for several growing seasons. All other vegetables must be replanted every year. What are the only two perennial vegetables?

4. What fruit has its seeds on the outside?

5. In many liquor stores, you can buy pear brandy, with a real pear inside the bottle. The pear is whole and ripe, and the bottle is genuine; it hasn't been cut in any way. How did the pear get inside the bottle?

6. Only three words in standard English begin with the letters "dw" and they are all common words. Name two of them.

7. There are 14 punctuation marks in English grammar. Can you name at least half of them?

8. Name the only vegetable or fruit that is never sold frozen, canned, processed, cooked, or in any other form except fresh.

9. Name 6 or more things that you can wear on your feet beginning with the letter "S."

oh, and also...

Crystal tagged me the other day with the job of posting a list of doing-it songs.

The problem is this: I can count on my thumbs the number of times I have deliberately chosen music in order to put a girl in the mood. I had a regrettably well-behaved young adulthood, then got married at approximately the age of 14, then when my marriage didn't last I immediately got into a long-term exclusive relationship. That was a long-distance deal, so when we were together we didn't really need mood music, we just needed a place...

Anyway, as Crystal mentioned I am newly single, so I might finally have a use for such a list. I shall attempt at some future time to do a credible job of stealing ideas from other people on what it should look like. In the meantime, I guess I'll just have to put on Let's Do It In The Road, or possible Why Don't We Get Drunk And... and hope for the best...

brief update

1. Went to Mexico. It was fun. Didn't drink a lot of the water, but ate whatever I wanted from the street vendors every day. Tacos de lengua (tongue), chorizo (spicy mexican sausage), tripa (tripe), etc. Absolutely delicious. Moctezuma did not take his revenge. :-)

2. Got a new contract in Reno. It's interesting. The city, not the work.

3. Camila and I are broken up again, for good this time. It is hard to let go, but it was also hard making the distance work. What good is it to be with someone wonderful if you're hardly ever actually *with* them? I've met some nice women recently, but I think I'm going to just date for now, nothing too serious for a while...

4. The Stanley Cup Playoffs are on. The Calgary Flames won a gutsy one this wknd vs the San Jose Sharks -- they went down 3-0 in the first 5 minutes, clawed their way back to win it 4-3.

5. Took Sam to Teatro Zinzanni ("Love, Chaos, & Dinner") -- it was great. They have them in San Francisco and Las Vegas as well...

6. If you're feeling bad about your looks, here are some links to peruse...

one two three four five six

7. And here's something that might give a husband pause, at least until someone explained things to him...
