Not that there's anything wrong with that

Client's Holiday Luncheon, complete with elementary school choir singing Xmas carols. No one died this time, but I noticed they sang "don we now our fun apparel" instead of "gay apparel". All I can think is that they were unable to complete rehearsal for all the giggling and decided to change the lyric -- otherwise, I don't see the point...

This is the first I've heard of this phrase being changed. Of course, if it's kids doing the sining, I doubt many of them know the word "don" either, and while we're at it, "apparel." I propose instead of "Don we now opur gay apparel," they sing, "Put on all our really cool clothing." ... well, maybe not.

unca, agree w/your assessment of "donning of apparel" -- who knows anymore what that means? i'm guessing you're right, bryan, that the only word the kids recognized in that phrase was "gay", and not in the old-fashioned connotation...

I think you're right about the giggling.

I guess if they changed it to homosexual apparel they still would have giggled so I suppose fun was their only choice.
